it’s an hour long, mostly question-and-answer, and mostly questions that get long, elaborate, thoughtful answers. good stuff.
he does talk about his habit of lengthy digressions from the main plot of his books. I have read two his books so far, lengthy ones that get complained about a lot: Cryptonomicon and Anathem.
I didn’t quite see anything as a digression. even the infamous Captain Crunch scene in Cryptonomicon. Thta twas character and commentary about living as an expat – the character was an american engineer who’d somehow wound up living in some island jungle nation as part of a friend’s business venture, and Captain Crunch, something that is commplace stateside, has become an exotic mail-order treat that is hard to get and requires special circumstances to properly enjoy.
i liked it, in other words. I need to read more books by this man.
