Another day in paradise. Yesterday taught me the full extend of the SubGenius power of procrastination. Nothing happened until afternoon. So today, I slept in, got breakfast at the hotel and went to a grocery store to buy premade wraps from the deli to leave in my cooler for lunch/dinner, and then showed up after noon.
it was raining, so people were hanging out under a pavillion listening to music. I hung out and listened, it was good. Bonobos Convergence, primarily, but probably some other stuff too.
Then we had what was, for me, the most fun of the day, the Bulldada Auction. Bulldada is a Subgenius word for prophetic, poignant, retro-futuristic, or otherwise cosmically significant kitsch. It is rarely created on purpose, and often the product of passionate obsession and a low budget.
I scored two great items. the first was a copy of the final issue of the Weekly World News, which I intend to frame, because I dearly miss that most reliable of news sources. It was the only tabloid still doing articles on UFOs, Bigfoot, and Elvis (not to mention Batboy the feral child raised by bats and Osama Bin Laden’s wild trips to Las Vegas). The second is a delightful little paperback from 1971 called “None Dare Call it Conspiracy.“ The book is a primer on the Conspiratorial Theory of history, which is to say that small cabals of power-hungry people manipulate world events, and that all communism, socialism, and nazism in the world is secretly being run by them, as is all capitalism, to give them full control of the global economy. Hippies, Nazis, Masons, and world leaders all puppets dancing on the same strings.
I love kooky stuff like that.
afterwards, I just lounged around, chatted with people, watched some softcore porn from the 1950s at the drive-in, and have returned to the Hotel Room of Solitude for sleep-making.
