Dok Holocaust’s X-day review: day 1

By Doktor Holocaust

Not much really went on today. People set up their camps, for the most part, and I met various people. Here’s my overall thoughts on the day.

1) Naked man is naked. Really naked. It’s a clothing optional campground, so nudity can happen, and one gentleman took advantage of this freedom and strolled the grounds in naught but some flipflops and a smile.

2) Cool people are cool. Many of the older SubGenii, including radio show hosts like Ivan Stang and Suzie the Floozie, met and shook hands with everyone. Some of the Senior Slackers also handed out party favors.

3) Rude guy is rude. Allow me to describe the scenario. most camps were set up. Nothing much was going on. Everyone had already broken up into little outdoor hanging-out sessions with their old friends. I, a first timer not even staying on the grounds, had no tent to set up or old friends to chat with, so I was hanging out under an unused pavillion doing yoyo tricks and waiting for the drive in movie to start, and one of the event-organizer-people told me to join a party or go wait by the movie screen for the drive-in movie. Oddly enough, i already was waiting for the drive-in movie. it wasn’t dark yet, so i was hanging out in the shade under that pavillion while I waited. I realize he probably didn’t realize this, but it seemed to me he had a “do what everyone else is doing or leave” tone, which is funny at a Subgenius gathering.

4) Good movies are good! Doctor Dark, mad movie-scientist running our drive-in theater, selected “Dead Man” starring Johnny Depp. WOO! guest apperances by Iggy Pop, Crispin Glover, Gibby Haynes, and many others. It’s sort of a dark, psychological western. I heart this movie muchly, and it’s nice to see Johnny Depp in a top hat again.

5)  Good beverages are good!  Outside the grounds of the End of the World Party, I went to Friendly’s for dinner.  They have a drink called a Watermelon Slammer, and it is delicious
