- What are you reading right now? Doktor Sleepless (ongoing comic book series about a doctor who skips town, has mind-altering experiences, and comes back a mad scientist that wants to change society for the better). Recently read Freakonomics, which wasn’t that great as it turned out to have a secret subtitle “covertly pontificating our theories about the testing gap between black and white students in American schools.” I’d like to show their rogue economists the hidden side of my right boot, if you get me. also read various 30 Days of Night graphic novels, and Ghost World.
- Do you have any idea what you’ll read when you’re done with that? probably Rejuvenile by Christopher Noxon if it is within the local Barnes and Noble for my weekend trip, and any comics they have that look good.
- What magazines do you have in your bathroom right now? MAKE and UFO .
- What’s the worst thing you were ever forced to read? 18th century realist novels composed a few decades before standardized punctuation and spelling we introduced into the written language. I would say the Canturbury Tales, but once i got the hang of reading MIddle English it was actually quite funny.
- What’s the one book you always recommend to just about everyone? it used to be “Bloodcurdling tales of horror and the macabre,” a collection of HP Lovecraft stories. These days, the exegesis of Philip K Dick. Just kidding. something by him usually anyway, and some Warren Ellis comic books (Nextwave, Fell, Desolation Jones, or Doktor Sleepless, generally)
- Admit it, the librarians at your library know you on a first name basis, don’t they? naah, I prefer barnes and noble, because that way I don’t have to give the book back.
- Is there a book you absolutely love, but for some reason, people never think it sounds interesting, or maybe they read it and don’t like it at all? I dunno, I don’t get many opportunities to talk with people about books.
- Do you read books while you eat? While you bathe? While you watch movies or TV? While you listen to music? While you’re on the computer? While you’re having sex? While you’re driving? yes, no because i take showers, kinda (i may keep the tv on for background noise), yes, I kinda have to (the screen is full of letters, and theres this thing called Wikipedia that keeps eating my brain), only if masturbation counts, and yes but only roadsigns.
- When you were little, did other children tease you about your reading habits? No, they teased me because i COULD read, the illiterate little shits.
- What’s the last thing you stayed up half the night reading because it was so good you couldn’t put it down? “Stop Forgetting to Remember” by Peter Kuper. I am comic-book nerd, yes, but comic book nerd trained as a collections agent and armed with a wide assortment of lovely sharp objects. Oh, yes, Vito would like his money now.
