PREACH IT!

By Doktor Holocaust

Shigeru Miyamoto, the man behind such videogame greatness as the Super Mario franchise, Legend of Zelda, and Pokemon, speaks up about what video games need.

and what, according to Saint Miyamoto, do video games need?  JOY!  they need to actually be fun goddammit.  now, nintendo has no problem with this.  they’ve got The ‘Geru designing stuff for them, churning out cute cartoony intellectual properties and interesting ways for them to interact with a large and complex game-world.  It’s the hardcore-gamers-only systems, the Playstation and Xbox, that suffer most from the overabundance of boring old run-around-shooting-stuff games.

WOO! hey, if you like the FF games, you might like this webcomic, not mine, but an inspiration and a god among mutants: nuklearpower.com

8 bit theater. a webcomic made with the sprites from the original NES Final Fantasy. the characters are all really great archetypes that every gamer-geek can relate to: black mage is a homicidal maniac occultist who just wants destruction for its own sake, fighter is a goofy idiot-savant with mastery of all twelve styles of Zodiac Kenshido, Red Mage is what gamers call a twink (not the same as a gay-man twink – gamer twinks are people who internalize the rule systems to a frightening degree in pursuit of stat bonuses and the like, they are also called Power Gamers) and Thief is… well… I think this exchange from episode 393 sums it up:

“Why is it your brand of truth invariably involves obfuscation and lies?”
    “Because I’m Thief.”

fighter, of course, says things like “If I had a reason for everything I did, I’d be crazy,” which is a line I use to this very day, and Black Mage, my personal hero, says stuff like “Life IS funny, and since death is an inherent part of life, it is intrinsically funny when people drop dead.”
